How Lubos made $1,250 with 3 emails

Calling in from his AirBnB in Hong Kong, Lubos Turek couldn't stop talking about how much he's been able to appreciate living life as a digital nomad. Traveling and living in different countries every few months has only been possible because he's able to find remote work as a freelance JavaScript developer.

How Lubos made $1,250 with 3 emails

Lubos had been part of the G2i community so when he heard about the referral program, he saw an opportunity to contribute to the network while earning something extra on the side.

"Though I had some doubts initially, I found the idea of connecting with fellow developers and tech enthusiasts quite intriguing," Lubos shared as he looked back on his decision to join the referral program.

Just like his code, Lubos wanted to approach referrals elegantly. Instead of opting for impersonal mass emails or spam tactics, he chose to personalize his messages and only engaging with a few individuals and companies he had genuine connections with.

"Spamming wasn't my style. I wanted to reach out to like-minded individuals who appreciate clean code and efficient development practices, and those I believed could truly benefit from G2i," Lubos explained.

Instead of treating the referral program as a business transaction, Lubos saw it as a way to rekindle connections and build on his existing relationships. Even if introductions to G2i did not lead anywhere in particular, starting a conversation with people in his network gave him a chance to reconnect and catch up with people he hadn’t spoken with in a while.

Lubos’ efforts paid off when he successfully arranged a meeting with a New York-based startup building a livestream platform where fans could engage with their favorite athletes and complete Mr. Beast-style challenges for unique rewards. He received $250 as a reward for setting up the meeting and when the startup hired a part-time developer, he received another $1000. "This was a great outcome, considering I introduced G2i to just three companies that I believed could truly benefit from their services," Lubos shared.

Reflecting on his experience, Lubos was quick to highlight how important it is to be authentic and approach the referral process with the intent of helping people in his network discover solutions he believed in. There’s always more introductions to be made but for now, he’s happy that the referral bonuses are helping fund his escapades in Southeast Asia.
